How we protect forests
Our approach to conservation
We purchase ecologically valuable and critically endangered wilderness areas in a legally secure manner and protect them permanently. In this way, we protect wilderness areas from permanent disappearance and preserve them for future generations.
We do this through four complementary approaches: protecting forests, sharing knowledge, conducting research and building partnerships. Together, these approaches strengthen conservation, deepen our understanding of these ecosystems and inspire others to take action.
-
Protect opens in a new tab
We protect unique ecosystems forever through legally secure land purchases and long-term protection. This preserves biodiversity, stores carbon, and supports climate stability for future generations. With your donation, you protect a real piece of rainforest, mapped and traceable down to the square metre.Explore our impact opens in a new tab -
Educate
Through educational programs, media, and hands-on conservation projects, we help people discover the importance of wilderness and inspire action. By sharing knowledge, we aim to create lasting change that reaches far beyond the forests we protect.Explore our work -
Research
Our researchers work to understand the forest through field observations, camera traps, and biodiversity monitoring. Working with local experts and research partners, we gather insights into the species and ecosystems we protect. These insights help us track changes over time and make conservation more effective.Learn how we do research -
Partner
We believe conservation is only successful when we work together with local communities. Our researchers collaborate with them to better understand biodiversity, ecosystem health, and the long-term impact of conservation. These insights continually strengthen how we protect wilderness and help us measure our impact.Meet our partners
How we protect wilderness
Our guide to saving the world
-
Find a land plot
In rapid assessments, we work with researchers to determine the conservation value of forest ecosystems. The deciding factors are high biodiversity and carbon storage capacity, threat levels, and the area's strategic ecological importance. -
Purchase the land in advance
We purchase the land in advance, using financing through loans, rather than asking donors to fund land we don't yet own. -
Secure legal ownership
We only work in countries with a high level of legal security and only purchase land with a land registry entry. Our foundations are entered in the land registry as the legal owners. -
Create geo-referenced aerial images
We use drones to create high-quality aerial images of our protected areas. These are uploaded to our website, and every square metre is mapped with precise GPS coordinates. -
Refinance through donations
Once the land is secured, anyone can donate to protect a specific piece of the wilderness area. Donations refinance the purchase and ensure long-term protection. Each square metre is allocated only once.
-
Show GPS coordinates with a certificate
Donors receive a personalized certificate with the exact GPS coordinates of the piece of forest they protected. Maps and aerial imagery make the protection tangible and directly traceable. -
Research, document and communicate
Environmental ambassadors and researchers visit these areas, conduct research together and experience the forests they protect first-hand. Their findings, photos and videos support environmental education in schools and help us share the importance of protecting wilderness. -
Ensure long-term protection
Regular visits, local partnerships, Forest Guardians, property taxes and our foundation structure ensure the long-term protection and ecological integrity of the areas.
What sets us apart
-
Real protection, one square metre at a time.
We purchase and legally secure land before supporters can donate. Your donation helps refinance protection that's already in place, not a promise to protect it someday. With $1.50 CAD / $1 USD protecting 1m², your impact is immediate, measurable, and secure. -
You can see exactly where your donation goes.
We map our protected areas down to the square metre using aerial imagery and precise GPS coordinates, so you can see the forest you’ve helped protect. -
We protect wilderness permanently.
Our foundation structure and long-term stewardship model are designed to keep protected forests dedicated to conservation permanently; not simply for the duration of a project or funding cycle. -
We bring together conservation, research, and education.
Permanent staff, forest guardians, and research partners monitor the forests and deepen our understanding of these ecosystems. We share what we learn through research and education, helping more people understand and protect the places we care for.
