My forest was born from a simple but powerful idea: every wildlife encounter begins with a place. Every amazing animal needs a home. Through the Amazon rainforest, millions of people have experienced the thrill, beauty, and wonder of the natural world, but behind every filmed moment lies a fragile ecosystem that makes these stories possible.

By protecting this forest, we are not only safeguarding biodiversity, we are preserving the very foundation of wildlife itself. Because wildlife does not exist in isolation, when we protect habitats, we protect entire living worlds so the stories we share today can still be told tomorrow.

Jaguars, monkeys, towering rainforest trees, and countless other species call the Peruvian Amazon home. It’s one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, but its forests are under growing pressure.

Your support helps preserve this extraordinary rainforest and protects the habitat that wildlife depends on. Together, we can help ensure this forest remains wild for generations to come.

How giving works

  1. Select size

    On the donation form, select the size of the forest area you would like to protect.

  2. Fill in the donation form

    Fill out the form with your information —this will ensure that you receive all the necessary details and your donation receipt.

  3. Design a certificate

    Now you can personalize the certificate with your name or the name of the person you want to give the gift to. If you want, you can also add an occasion.

  4. Receive a certificate

    You can download the certificate with the GPS coordinates of your protected area directly after payment. It will also be sent to you by email, together with a link that shows you your personal protected area on our online map down to the square meter.

A window into the rainforest

The Madre de Dios region of Peru is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. Around 10% of the world’s bird species can be found here, alongside an extraordinary diversity of plants, mammals, insects, and other wildlife. These images capture the forest and wildlife Mark encountered during his visit.

Our researchers are also night owls, especially Chris Ketola. Mark assisted Chris in studying the bat population in our protected areas.

Even during the day, the rainforest is a place teeming with life. The calls of howler monkeys, the loudest mammals in the Amazon, are heard from great distances.

About Wilderness International

Wilderness International is a conservation organization with teams in Canada, Peru, and Germany. We permanently protect threatened wilderness and the wildlife, ecosystems, and communities that depend on them. We purchase wilderness areas, which remain in our ownership and under our protection.

These land purchases are refinanced through donations from people who believe these forests are worth protecting. Together with our partners, we support the long-term protection of wilderness through conservation, environmental education, and research.

  • What does Wilderness International do?

    Wilderness International is a conservation organization working to permanently protect threatened old-growth forests in Peru and Canada. We secure forest areas through legal ownership and protect them for the long term, so they can remain wild and continue to support the wildlife and ecosystems within them.

  • What does my donation support?

    Your donation helps protect threatened rainforest in the Peruvian Amazon. It supports the long-term protection of the forest and the work needed to care for these protected areas.

  • Can I make a one-time or recurring donation?

    You can choose a one-time or recurring donation when you give. One-time donations have no ongoing commitment or obligation.

  • What do I receive after donating?

    You’ll receive a personalized Wilderness Protection Certificate with the GPS coordinates of the protected area and a link to our online map, where you can see the piece of forest you’re helping to protect. You can also personalize the certificate as a gift.

  • How are U.S. donations processed?

    Donations from the U.S. are processed through American Friends of Canadian Conservation (AFCC), our U.S. charitable partner. AFCC will provide eligible donors with a U.S. tax receipt for their donation.

  • How do you ensure the forest remains protected?

    We secure and legally register forest areas before we begin fundraising for their protection. This means your donation supports a forest that Wilderness International has already secured for long-term conservation.

    Our foundation structure and bylaws are designed to protect these forests for the long term. The land is owned by Wilderness International, cannot simply be sold, and is kept undisturbed except for activities such as research and documentation.

  • How are local communities involved?
